portrait response

As accurately as possible, describe what you see. Look closely and record every visible detail. Everything from composition to background to facial expressions is open for description.

1) Describe the mood of the image(s) What is the expression on the faces of the models? What is their posture?
The mood is very contradictory to me because the colors are very bright and high in contrast which usually occurs in images with a more positive mood. The facial expressions alone of these girls show a more sad or mysterious mood. Both images are composed with the subject as the only focus in the image, meaning that there is no background that distracts from the overall mood. Red is the color used in the background and when I see red, I often see tension and anger in the images.

2) Think about technique. How do you imagine these images were created? Oil paint? Photoshop?
I think that these images have also been created in photoshop. At first glance, I thought they were paintings, but then I noticed how realistic the hair looks, and how it is a different style all together than the rest of the image. I think the images were originally photographs that have been edited with filters to make parts look like paintings

3) Ask yourself what role color plays in the images(?) Does it accentuate the mood?
The role that color plays in these images is to create an interesting image. I do overall think that it accentuates the mood by drawing more attention to the images, even creating tension because the colors are so in ones face. The colors represent the stressed facial expressions in the images.

4) Finally, what do you think the artist intended to convey with these images? What response was he/she attempting to evoke? Do you think the effort was successful?
I think the artist was trying to convey the emotion of the girls faces through their perspective and mood with the edits they put on the image. They may have been trying to show how the girls felt like they werent living in a reality, since the filters make the images look less realistic and more distorted. I think this effort was successful. At first I was unsure about the message the artist was trying to create, but analyzing these images brought me to a conclusion.
